Recipe cost vs cost per serving

Recipe cost is what everything in the pot costs. Cost per serving is that total divided by how many portions it makes. The example curry above costs about £8.74 and makes 8 servings — roughly £1.09 each.

Getting an accurate figure

Use the price you paid for the pack and the pack size from the label.
Enter the amount the recipe uses — the calculator converts kg to g and litres to ml.
For pinches and splashes, use "Cost used" and enter a small estimate.

How do I calculate the cost of a recipe?

Add up the cost of the amount of each ingredient you use. For each one: pack price × (amount used ÷ pack size). The recipe cost calculator does this for you.

Does the calculator account for the amount of an ingredient actually used?

Yes. Choose 'Pack price' and enter the pack size, pack price and amount used — the calculator only charges for what goes into the recipe.

How do I calculate the cost of a recipe for different numbers of people?

Change the number of servings to see the new cost per serving. If you scale the recipe up, increase the ingredient amounts too — the total updates instantly.

Can I use different currencies?

Yes. Choose GBP, USD, EUR, CAD or AUD from the currency menu. This only changes the symbol — we don't convert prices, as you enter your own.
