Frequently asked questions

How many slices does a cake make?

A 20cm (8 inch) round cake usually gives 8–12 slices; a tray bake can give 16–24. Enter the number you'll actually cut.

How do I calculate baking costs?

Cost each ingredient by the amount used, add any packaging or decoration, then divide by the number of cakes or portions. Try the baking cost calculator.

Does the calculator account for the amount of an ingredient actually used?

Yes. Choose 'Pack price' and enter the pack size, pack price and amount used — the calculator only charges for what goes into the recipe.

Can I use different currencies?

Yes. Choose GBP, USD, EUR, CAD or AUD from the currency menu. This only changes the symbol — we don't convert prices, as you enter your own.
